New Airport in Berlin uses technology by ENERCRET
Currently the new airport "Berlin Brandenburg International" is being built on an area of 1.470 ha. It will replace the current airport "Tempelhof" and will handle 6 500 passengers per hour during rush hour. Because the new buildings are founded on piles, ENERCRET technology is the perfect solution to save energy. 316 energy piles with an average length of 16 metres have already been installed. These piles are equipped with piping - having a total length of 35 km and work as heat exchangers between the buildings and the ground. The geothermal system will supply 15% of the energy for heating the terminals and 31% of the energy for cooling the buildings. Here, like in many other places, ENERCRET helps to lower operating costs, reduces the need for external energy supply and therefore decreases the emission of green house gases.
